Wild Yam Cream for Stress & Anxiety During Menopause: Does It Help?
Share

If you've noticed that you're feeling more anxious, stressed, emotionally overwhelmed or simply not quite yourself during perimenopause or menopause, you're certainly not alone.
For many women, this stage of life can bring changes that go far beyond hot flushes.
You may find yourself lying awake at night with a busy mind. You may feel more easily overwhelmed, less patient, unusually emotional or worried about things that previously wouldn't have bothered you.
And when you're not sleeping well, everything can feel harder.
At Modani Naturals, we hear from women who tell us that using our Wild Yam Cream has become part of their daily or evening routine, and some tell us they feel calmer, more settled and sleep better when they use it.
But does Wild Yam Cream actually help with stress and anxiety?
The honest answer is that we can't claim Wild Yam Cream treats anxiety or a mental health condition. There isn't enough clinical evidence to make that claim.
What we can do is look at what is happening during menopause, why stress and sleep can become so closely connected, what we know about the herbs we've deliberately selected for our formula, and what women using Modani Naturals tell us about their experience.
Why can menopause make you feel more stressed or anxious?
Menopause isn't simply about periods stopping.
During perimenopause, hormone levels can fluctuate considerably, and these changes can coincide with changes in mood, sleep, concentration and emotional wellbeing.
The Australasian Menopause Society notes that women going through the menopausal transition have a higher risk of mood changes and symptoms of anxiety and depression. It also explains that physical symptoms such as hot flushes, sleep disturbance and brain fog can overlap with mental health symptoms, while the stresses of midlife can add another layer.
For some women, it can feel like everything happens at once:
- You can't seem to switch your mind off.
- Sleep becomes lighter or more disrupted.
- Hot flushes wake you during the night.
- You feel tired the next day.
- You have less resilience to everyday stresses.
- You feel more irritable or emotional.
- Your concentration isn't what it used to be.
- And then you worry about why you're feeling this way.
It's easy to see how a cycle can develop:
Stress → poor sleep → fatigue → less emotional resilience → more stress.
Breaking that cycle can make a meaningful difference to how you feel day to day.

So, where does Wild Yam Cream fit in?
This is where we believe it's important to separate a treatment claim from a wellbeing ritual.
Modani Naturals Wild Yam Cream is not a medicine and isn't intended to treat anxiety, depression or other mental health conditions.
Instead, it was created as a plant-rich, hormone-free botanical cream for women moving through perimenopause, menopause and beyond.
The formulation contains whole-herb infusions and botanicals traditionally used in women's wellbeing, including:
- Wild Yam Root
- Ashwagandha
- Chaste Tree
- Shatavari
- Red Clover
- Chamomile
Several of these herbs were specifically selected because of their traditional association with women's wellbeing, calm and resilience.
We also chose a gentle blend of pure essential oils for their beautiful, naturally calming aromas, making the scent itself part of the sensory experience of applying the cream.
And that's important.
Wild Yam Cream isn't simply a wild yam cream.
It is a carefully developed botanical blend, created with women's wellbeing in mind.
Ashwagandha: traditionally associated with stress and resilience
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is one of the best-known Ayurvedic herbs traditionally used to support the body's response to stress.
Modern research has investigated ashwagandha for stress, sleep and anxiety. According to the U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), some ashwagandha preparations may be helpful for stress and insomnia, although evidence around anxiety remains unclear. NCCIH also notes that studies have used a variety of different ashwagandha preparations, often in relatively small trials.
Importantly, most of this research involves oral ashwagandha preparations, not a topical cream.
So we don't claim that the ashwagandha in Wild Yam Cream treats anxiety.
Instead, it is one of the reasons we deliberately selected this traditional botanical as part of our broader women's wellbeing formulation.

Chamomile: the gentle calming herb
Chamomile has a long history of traditional use as a calming botanical.
There is also some interesting scientific research. A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial investigated oral chamomile extract in people with mild-to-moderate generalised anxiety disorder and found a significantly greater reduction in anxiety symptoms compared with placebo. The researchers described the results as suggesting modest anxiolytic activity, while also noting that further research was needed.
The NCCIH similarly describes the evidence as preliminary and not conclusive.
Again, these studies were conducted using oral chamomile extracts, not Modani's topical cream.
That's an important distinction.
We include chamomile because of its traditional botanical role and because it complements the overall intention of our formula: to create a nurturing, calming self-care experience for women.

What about the other herbs?
Our Wild Yam Cream contains several botanicals rather than relying on one single herb.
Wild Yam Root
Wild yam has a long history of traditional use and is particularly associated with women's health and menopause.
Wild yam contains naturally occurring steroidal saponins, including diosgenin.
One important misconception worth clearing up is that wild yam cream is not natural progesterone. The human body does not simply convert diosgenin from wild yam into progesterone.
There has been clinical research into topical wild yam cream. A small double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study involving 23 postmenopausal women found no statistically significant difference between wild yam cream and placebo for the menopausal symptoms measured. The study did, however, report no significant short-term side effects.
This is why we don't tell women that our cream replaces hormones or treats menopause.
Instead, we believe women deserve to know what the research does and doesn't tell us.

Chaste Tree
Chaste Tree (Vitex agnus-castus) has a long history of traditional use in women's herbal medicine and has traditionally been associated with menstrual and reproductive wellbeing.
It was selected as part of our botanical blend because of its traditional role in women's wellbeing.
Shatavari
Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) is another traditional Ayurvedic botanical associated with women's wellbeing and has a long history of use in Ayurvedic herbal practice.
It is one of the herbs that helps give our formula its distinctly botanical, women-focused character.
Red Clover
Red clover contains naturally occurring isoflavones and is commonly included in botanical formulations designed for women's menopause wellbeing.
However, evidence for many herbal approaches to menopause remains inconsistent, which is why we believe it's important not to promise more than the research can support.
The importance of scent: creating a calming ritual
There is something wonderfully simple about taking a few minutes at the end of the day to care for yourself.
Applying your Wild Yam Cream slowly to your skin can become a signal that the day is winding down.
And it's not only the application itself.
The beautiful natural aroma of pure essential oils is also part of the experience.
We deliberately chose the essential oils in our Wild Yam Cream for their naturally soothing, calming aromas, creating a gentle sensory experience as you apply the cream.
There are no synthetic fragrances, just the beautiful natural scent of carefully selected essential oils.
Perhaps you apply your cream to your upper arms, wrists, chest or neck.
You breathe in the gentle botanical aroma.
You take a few slow breaths.
You put your phone away.
You dim the lights.
You allow yourself five quiet minutes.
That simple combination of touch, scent, breathing and slowing down can turn your Wild Yam Cream application into a calming self-care ritual.
We're not suggesting that the essential oils or the cream itself treat anxiety. Rather, it's about creating a moment in your day that feels nurturing and intentional, something you can look forward to, particularly at bedtime.
And if you begin to associate that beautiful natural aroma and your daily application with relaxation and winding down, that can become a lovely part of your personal daily routine.
For many women, wellbeing isn't always about finding one big solution.
Sometimes it's about creating small, consistent moments that help you pause, breathe and reconnect with yourself.
But many women tell us they feel calmer and sleep better
This is the part we don't want to dismiss.
Over the years, we've received feedback from women who tell us that using Modani Naturals Wild Yam Cream has become part of their daily routine and that they experience things such as:
“I sleep better.”
“I feel calmer.”
“I feel more settled.”
“I feel like it helps me relax at night.”
These are real customer experiences, and we value them enormously.
But customer feedback isn't the same as a clinical trial.
We can't know whether someone's improved sleep or sense of calm came from the cream itself, the herbal ingredients, the soothing ritual of applying it, improvements in other menopause symptoms, better sleep habits, or a combination of factors.
And we think being transparent about that matters.
Sometimes a woman's experience tells us something worth listening to
There is an important distinction between scientific proof and personal experience.
A customer telling us that she sleeps better after incorporating Wild Yam Cream into her evening routine doesn't prove that the cream caused her improved sleep.
But it is still meaningful feedback.
When women independently tell us similar things, that they feel calmer, more relaxed or more settled at night, we listen.
It's one of the reasons we continue to believe in the value of creating products that support women not just through what they put on their skin, but through the experience of using them.
What does the evidence actually tell us?
We believe women deserve a straight answer.
Does Wild Yam Cream cure anxiety?
No. There isn't sufficient clinical evidence to make that claim.
Can we say that some of the herbs in it have been traditionally associated with calm, stress or women's wellbeing?
Yes.
Is there research into individual ingredients such as ashwagandha and chamomile?
Yes, although much of that research involves oral extracts rather than topical preparations, and the evidence isn't conclusive.
Do women tell us they feel calmer and sleep better when using Modani Wild Yam Cream?
Yes. This is feedback we hear from our customers.
Does that prove the cream caused those improvements?
No. Customer experiences are valuable, but they don't replace controlled clinical research.
And we think you can hold both things to be true.
There may not yet be enough clinical research to prove exactly what a particular woman will experience from a botanical cream.
But that doesn't mean her experience isn't real.
Supporting yourself through menopause
Wild Yam Cream should be considered one small part of a bigger picture.
If stress, anxiety or poor sleep are affecting your quality of life, there are many evidence-based approaches worth exploring.
These can include:
- regular movement and exercise
- prioritising consistent sleep
- reducing excess caffeine and alcohol
- relaxation and breathing practices
- mindfulness
- cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
- talking openly with your GP or menopause healthcare professional
- discussing appropriate menopause treatments if symptoms are significantly affecting your wellbeing
The Australasian Menopause Society notes that lifestyle changes, psychological therapies and appropriate medical treatments can all have a role in managing mental health symptoms associated with menopause. It specifically highlights physical activity, improving sleep, reducing stress and psychological therapies as part of a broader approach.
If anxiety is persistent, severe, new or interfering with your everyday life, please speak with your healthcare professional rather than trying to manage it with a skincare product alone.
Why we created Wild Yam Cream
At Modani Naturals, we don't believe women need another product that promises to “fix” everything menopause throws at them.
We believe in something gentler.
Nurture. Support. Restore.
Our Wild Yam Cream was created for women who want to care for their skin and wellbeing with a thoughtfully chosen blend of whole herbs, plant oils and butters.
It's hormone-free, plant-rich and made in small batches.
The herbs weren't simply added to create a long ingredient list. Each botanical was specifically chosen for its traditional association with women's wellbeing, while the natural essential oils were selected to bring a beautiful, calming aromatic experience to the ritual.
And while we won't promise that Wild Yam Cream will cure anxiety or guarantee a better night's sleep, we are genuinely encouraged by the women who tell us that it has become part of their routine, and that they feel calmer, more comfortable and better able to settle at night.
Sometimes wellbeing isn't about finding one magic answer.
Sometimes it's about finding small things that help you feel more like yourself again.
And perhaps your Wild Yam Cream ritual can be one of them.
A note about the evidence
The information in this article is provided for educational purposes and isn't intended to diagnose, treat or cure anxiety, depression, insomnia or any other medical condition. Herbal research can vary considerably depending on the plant preparation, dose and method of administration. Research involving oral herbal extracts should not automatically be interpreted as evidence for topical products.
If you're experiencing persistent anxiety, depression, severe sleep problems or symptoms that are affecting your quality of life, speak with your doctor or qualified healthcare professional.
